LA's Planning Department published their Housing Progress Report at the end of November. The report tracks building permits that fit into four categories: Accessory Dwelling Units, Unpermitted Dwelling Units, Transit Oriented Communities Incentives, Density Bonus.
Regarding ADU's, the report provides an interesting perspective on the increase of applications submitted after the change to the state law in 2017, the breakdown of how many applications were for new construction ADUs vs additions or conversions, as well as a map illustrating where in LA ADUs are being constructed.

Even more remarkable than the numbers above, the City anticipates there will be 8, 279 total ADU permit applications submitted by the end of 2018. Since math is fun, let's break that down. If 3, 922 permits were submitted by September, that's 4,357 permits expected to be submitted in the last quarter -- 111% more in the last 3 months of the year than in the first 9. That's remarkable!
